I moved to the North End in Boston over a month ago, and last Thursday was my first experience eating Italian food in my new neighborhood. The North End is known for being home to the most incredible and fresh Italian food, so the fact I only just got around to trying what my area is all about is disappointing… at least I got around to it eventually, right?
Since I couldn’t risk being disappointed on my first experience, I had to find the best place in Boston to eat at. Located on the street parallel to my apartment, Salem Street, Terramia is tucked away on the lefthand side. Upon entering, you’ll immediately feel like you’re in Italy. The waiter greeted us, and we sat in the cozy corner seat overlooking the street. I wasn’t disappointed about not having a Valentine until I went to dinner here. If you’re on the hunt for a place to take your special someone, Terramia is the place. Make sure to reserve that corner seat!
Now, on to the food. One of my best friends from childhood, Claire, came to visit for the night, and she’s a huge foodie like me. Especially since she lives in Providence and works at a restaurant, the girl knows her food. Read more
Oh, no! I’m too late to book my annual dinner at Terramia’s for CityFeast, the 11th annual fundraiser to benefit Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund. Terramia and Bricco are already sold out for the Sunday, January 31, event. But thankfully there are plenty of other choices, although with this popular event, it’s best to get your tickets ASAP.

Noshing on pasta and washing it down with wine doesn’t exactly paint a picture of healthy eating. But Sunday night, your gluttonous eating can help Hubsters living with diabetes thanks to CityFeast, a dining-out benefit for Joslin Diabetes Center.
Nine North End favorites — Antico Forno, Aria Trattoria, Bricco, Lucca, Lucia, Strega, Taranta, Terramia Ristorante and Tresca —will serve a five-course meal with wine pairings. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the world-renowned treatment center’s High Hopes Fund, which supports research, education and clinical care.
North End restaurateur Carla Agrippino Gomes (owner of Salem Street’s Antico Forno and Terramia) founded the annual event in 2005 after her son David was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Since its inception, CityFeast has raised more than $280,000 for the medical center.

This week’s Badass Chick is Carla Gomes, a restauranteur who’s raised almost $280,000 for the Joslin Diabetes Center in honor of her son.
Almost 30 years ago, Carla was a dental hygienist and mother-of-two who, on a whim, came up with the idea of owning a restaurant. Carla spoke to her brother, a restaurant owner/manager, and asked him if one of his chef friends would want to partner with her on a restaurant. It was sort of a pipe dream, and a “this is probably never going to happen” type of suggestion. Sure enough, his friend did want to partner with her. And just four days after throwing the idea out there, the paperwork was signed and Carla was the proud owner of Terramia Restaurant in the North End. (Yup. FOUR DAYS.) She and her husband worked seven days a week for six months to get the restaurant off the ground, and it was so successful that she now owns two other properties in the North End as well! Read more
