City Feast 2004
On Sunday, February 29, 2004. On behalf of
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), I held a food and wine event: The Second Annual City Feast-Dining For A
Cure.
My son David was diagnosed on his first birthday and has been living with this
terrible disease for the past 12 years. Juvenile diabetes (Type 1 diabetes) is
an autoimmune disease that strikes children suddenly and forces lifelong insulin
dependence and long term devastating health complications. Diabetes affects 17
million Americans and is the leading cause of blindness, kidney disease, heart
disease, stroke and amputations. INSULIN IS NOT A CURE.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was formed in 1970 by parents of
children with juvenile diabetes with the mission to cure diabetes and its
complications through the support of research. The JDRF is the world’s leading
non-governmental, non-profit fund of diabetes research and is able to devote 85
percent of all funds raised annually to research and education. JDRF has raised
over $600 million for diabetes research; $115 million in 2001 alone.
Massachusetts is a key research hub, receiving 17% of all funds raised
nationally in 2001.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a
success!
We
look forward to the 3rd annual City Feast !
Sincerely,
Carla Gomes
City Feast 2003
On Sunday, February 9, 2003, over 150 guests attended City
Feast, a first-time ever event organized by Carla Gomes, owner of Terramia and
Antico Forno, who's son David was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes on his 1st
B-day. City Feast was a great opportunity to enjoy the wonderful cuisine of the
North End while raising needed funds for diabetes research. In addition to Terramia, five other North End restaurants participated in the event: Artu's,
Bricco, Lucca, Prezza, and Sage. Attendees enjoyed a private 5-course dinner
including the pairing of complimentary wines for each course at the restaurant
of their choice. Besides the magnificent meal and the quiet atmosphere, guests
also enjoyed a visit from Nick Boynton, Defenseman for the Boston Bruins, who
also has type I Diabetes. Nick was kind enough to visit each restaurant to thank
all of the guests for attending.
Thanks to the generosity of the six participating North End restaurants and
Carla Gomes' dedication toward finding a cure, city Feast raised over $22,000
for JDRF! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success!
We
look forward to the 2nd annual City Feast !
