EVENT LISTING
For Sunday, January 28 ,2007

Annual “CityFeast: Dining Out to Conquer Diabetes”
Set for Sunday, Jan. 28

North End’s finest restaurants – Antico Forno, Lucca, Prezza, Taranta, Terramia and Tresca –
among participants; Proceeds to benefit the High Hopes Fund at Joslin Diabetes Center

WHAT:          Boston’s most celebrated North End chefs will host this year’s CityFeast – Dining Out to Conquer Diabetes on Sunday, Jan. 28.  Carla Gomes, the mother of a child with diabetes and owner of both Antico Forno and Terramia, organized the event to help raise awareness of the disease and support Joslin Diabetes Center’s mission of conquering diabetes in all of its forms.  For $150 per person (tax and gratuity included), guests will enjoy a five-course meal and complementary wines at one of the following restaurants:  Antico Forno, Lucca, Prezza, Taranta, Terramia or Tresca.  Credit card reservations for dinner, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 28, can be made through the Joslin Development Office at 617.732.2412.  All proceeds from the evening will benefit the High Hopes Fund at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

WHY:            The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 20.8 million Americans have diabetes, up 14 percent since 2003. That means, almost every man, woman and child will be touched by the disease at some point during their lifetime.  But there is reason to be hopeful.  Thanks to events like CityFeast – Dining Out to Conquer Diabetes, support for the research, care and education that Joslin Diabetes Center provides is available for patients and families living with diabetes.  The High Hopes Fund in particular generates critical resources to support Joslin’s multi-dimensional efforts to discover, create and distribute new knowledge about diabetes prevention and treatment, expanding the worldwide efforts to combat this growing disease.

Ms. Gomes explains, “My son has type 1 diabetes and is a Joslin patient.  For the past 14 years, Joslin has made an extremely challenging disease manageable, and has given him the best possible quality of life.  With CityFeast: Dining Out to Conquer Diabetes, my fellow restaurateurs and I hope to offer guests an evening of great food with classic North End charm and hospitality, as well as provide a wonderful opportunity to support the important and necessary research, care and education at Joslin.”
